Ancient Mesopotamia is called the cradle of civilization. The first cities and empires formed here. As you will see from the timeline, power changed hands many times throughout the ancient history of this area. It went from the Sumer to the Akkadians to the Babylonians to the Assyrians back to the Babylonians back to the Assyrians and finally to the Persians.
In the late fourth century, the Western Roman Empire crumbled after a nearly 500-year run as the world’s greatest superpower. Historians have blamed the collapse on hundreds of different factors ranging from military failures and crippling taxation to natural disasters and even climate change.
The idea of a police system to protect a city originated in London. In 1737 a law was passed creating a police system with 68 men. But as the city grew and poverty increased, looting and rioting were soon out of control in London.
Before the 16th century, people who were deaf-mute (unable to hear or speak) were treated horribly. They were regarded as idiots, incapable of intelligence, and were locked up in asylums or even killed.
