Do the houseflies eat solid food?

Houseflies cannot eat solid food because they have no equipment for biting. The mouthparts of the fly are made for sucking up liquid food. When a fly lands on solid food, it spreads saliva on it which makes it liquid 2,016 Views

. What looks like the fly's "tongue" is really a snout like an elephant's trunk. It has two lobes at the end which act as funnels for drawing in its liquid food.

People think that house flies bite them. But it's not true. Other types of flies like sand flies or stable flies, which are bloodsucking by nature, are the ones which bite people.

You may be wondering that if the housefly does not bite, why is it considered so dangerous? It is dangerous because of the sticky glue which covers its tongue and because of the bristling hairs which cover its claws, padded feet, and body.

Due to these, dust and dirt cling to the fly, which may be full of the bacteria of various diseases. And then if the fly touches the food we eat, these diseased bacteria enter our body.
