What is Nature?

Close your eyes and imagine that you are outside. What can you see, hear, smell, and touch? Can you see the hills and the trees? Can you hear the birds and wind blowing? 1,175 Views

Can you smell the flowers blooming near you? Can you touch the soft grass on your feet or feel the air against your face? Everything you just saw in your mind is called nature. Nature is the physical world and everything in it that is not made by people.

Using the five senses of your body helps you discover and learn what nature is. The five senses of your body are seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and touching. By using these five senses, you can identify all the types of nature around you.

Seeing, hearing, smelling, and touching was talked about earlier in the lesson when you imagined that you were outside, and examples of these were given. However, can you taste nature? If you have ever eaten apples, you have tasted nature. You actually eat many types of nature. Fruits, vegetables, and nuts are all examples of nature that you can eat.

Nature is not only what you imagined being outside in your yard. It is so much more! Have you ever been to your state's zoo? All the animals, or living things, you see in the zoo, such as lions, tigers, bears, penguins, snakes, and elephants, are nature! There are also many other places to find living things in nature. In the forest, there are trees and plants as well as deer, squirrels, rabbits, and bears. In the ocean, there are fish, crabs, sharks, and dolphins. Nature really is everywhere!
